How is acute otitis media diagnosed?

From history and examination there are no tests. There will often be a history of recent viral illness, otalgia or hearing changes. Examination may show a bulging, opaque tympanic membrane.

Acute otitis media is generally self limiting so management generally involves analgesia and monitoring.

What are the complications of Acute otitis media?

Otitis media with effusion - most common - may cause hearing issues but is generally asymptomatic
