rapid deterioration in kidney function in individuals with cirrhosis or fulminant liver failure
What is the management of Hepatorenal syndrome?
- ideal treatment is liver transplantation
- vasopressin analogues, for example terlipressin
- volume expansion with 20% albumin
- transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt
What is the pathophysiology of Hepatorenal syndrome?
vasoactive mediators cause splanchnic vasodilation which in turn reduces the systemic vascular resistance. This results in 'underfilling' of the kidneys
What is the prognosis of Hepatorenal syndrome?
poor prognosis
